Ten things for the next Plague Inc. Update

The June 12th update to Plague added a few new features, but by far the biggest improvement was fixing the crashing issues for older iDevices, particularly the 1st gen iPad.  This will no doubt raise the juggernauts rating to five stars.  Here are ten things we'd like to see in the next update in the app store.

10. Super fast forward - The game play is very well placed but for the more advanced players or for those caught with a slow spreading pathogen or Icelandians dying at the pace of ten per day, the option to speed up game play would be a welcome addition!

9.  More countries - This will only be possible with an updated map and an improved interface that allows for easier zooming and navigation.  The added complexity and DNA points would be good but its already difficult to click on some countries.

8. Targeted pathogens - We want to see a new dimension from the all or nothing approach.  How about a nano-virus that must destroy Russia, without killing South Africans?

7.  Region Mode - Instead of infecting the entire world, focus on a small detailed area such as Central America.  Infections could transmit from city to city.

6.  Increased game dynamics - Too often a single event seals your fate.  New Zealand closes its port? - you might as well start the game over.  Make it possible for ports to reopen and pull back the alarm, significantly slowing research etc.

5.  Multiple saves - Now that the crash problems are fixed this is less of an issue but multiple saved games would be a nice convenience.

4.  More random events -  The bird migration events are cool but too frequent.  There should be more events but more random in their effectiveness.  A colder than expected summer in the southern hemisphere, a hijacked Aussie flight, a fire at the Canadian research facility - they'd all be great.  Less predictable and more exciting!

3. Cure mode - turn the tables on the pathogens and invest points to stop the spread.

2. Retina graphics for the iPad - Version 1.1 brought a full iPad version but the graphics and interface still have a lot of room for improvement.

1. ZOMBIES! - The folks at Ndemic hinted at it. I'm expecting it, and soon...by the end of June soon! You heard it here first.

  1. I think it would make a lot of sense to have refugees play a part in the game. If Greenland or New Zeland are the only health places on earth then they are going to run into a serious illegal immigration problem.

  2. About the super fast forward thing... If you hit the fast forward button (The double arrow) twice, it speeds the game up more. Tap it once more and it gets even faster. From what I've noticed at least.

  3. Multi-Player

Could have Virus vs Virus, who's virus can wipe out the most people, do you spend DNA points on evolving your virus to kill the other players virus or......

    Other option...

One player plays as the curer, and one as the virus....

Curer gets a research budget allocated......

  4. May I suggest a totally new story taking the part of a team of scientists working against a lethal unknown virus?
    ...AND THEN...
put the two games together and make a new massive strategic game?
    Ah?
    Or does it already exists?

  8. I disagree. I think one of the top things needed is to fix the memory leak on this great game. Having to close out and shut it down every 3 games or so is quite annoying.

  9. The newest update (1.4) adds mutagenic properties to your plague's DNA and also some gameplay/AI tweaks! Apparently, Zombies are coming next! AWESOME.

  10. I think they should take Alaska out of Canada! Come on, seriously? Besides just because the lower 48 are infected does not mean Alaska would be, if Canada & the US are separate then separate Alaska from the US & Canada, so even if the US is infected, it had to get into Canada before it hits Alaska. Also what of the Pan-Pacific traffic, why are there no ships or planes across the Pacific between Japan/Russia and US/Canada/Alaska for instance? We gets lots of tourist ships.

  11. Oh, add Hawaii to that as well for the same reason, infected mainland does not mean they are...

  12. They could add an option where you see the people suffering from the plague. A zoom in option like google earth and see 3d humans and civilization. Multi player is also good. It could be virus vs virus (any of the diseases against another disease against another player or the computer), or one playing as the cure and one playing as the virus. That would be pretty interesting.

  13. More of an idea for a sequel or spinoff, but how about a scifi variant? That instead of infecting Earth you infect the whoe solar system/several systems, and on the same vein, how about different maps to spice it up? Like Lux did, Earth is the main map but you can play regions of it, or fictional lands, like infecting famous worlds of fantasy/scifi.

  14. I have two big suggestions, mainly for ease of use. I play it on an iPhone.

    1. Move the settings gear button down to just above the DNA meter, in the ocean. I can't pop the Canada balloons without it going crazy.

    2. Make the news ticker shorter. Same problem as above, for Greenland.
